H.F. 2026 Section 1. STATE DEPARTMENT RESTRUCTURING STUDY. The 1 department of management, in consultation with affected state 2 departments, shall conduct a study concerning the feasibility 3 of reducing the number of principal state departments, 4 as listed in section 7E.5, headed by directors under the 5 governor’s direct control. The goal of the study is to develop 6 a plan to reduce the number of such departments to no more 7 than ten. The department shall submit a report to the general 8 assembly by January 1, 2015, concerning the results of the 9 study and a proposed restructuring plan. The report shall 10 analyze any cost or legal issues relative to the proposed 11 restructuring and shall include proposed legislation for 12 implementing the proposed departmental restructuring. 13 EXPLANATION 14 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 15 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 16 This bill requires the department of management to conduct 17 a study with the goal of developing a plan for reducing the 18 number of state departments to no more than 10.
