Section
455C.6,
Code
2014,
is
amended
by
adding
1
the
following
new
subsection:

SUBSECTION

An
approved
redemption
center
may
charge

consumers
a
sorting
fee
not
to
exceed
a
rate
of
one
dollar
per

one
hundred
empty
beverage
containers
returned
by
the
consumer.

Sec.
2.
Section
455C.7,
Code
2014,
is
amended
to
read
as

follows:

455C.7
Unapproved
redemption
centers.
8
Any
person
may
establish
a
redemption
center
which
has
not
9
been
approved
by
the
department,
at
which
a
consumer
may
return
10
empty
beverage
containers
and
receive
payment
of
the
refund
11
value
of
the
beverage
containers.
The
establishment
of
an
12
unapproved
redemption
center
shall
not
relieve
any
dealer
from
13
the
responsibility
of
redeeming
any
empty
beverage
containers
14
of
the
kind
and
brand
sold
by
the
dealer.
An
unapproved
15
redemption
center
may
charge
consumers
a
sorting
fee
not
to
16
exceed
a
rate
of
one
dollar
per
one
hundred
empty
beverage
17
containers
returned
by
the
consumer.

The
inclusion

this
explanation
does

This
bill
relates
to
the
beverage
container
control
law
in

Code
chapter
455C,
also
known
as
the
bottle
bill.

The
bill
allows
approved
and
unapproved
redemption
centers

to
charge
consumers
a
sorting
fee
not
to
exceed
a
rate
of
$1
per

100
empty
beverage
containers
returned
by
the
consumer.
