S.F. _____ Section 1. Section 364.17, Code 2011, is amended by adding 1 the following new subsection: 2 NEW SUBSECTION . 8. Cities may adopt housing code provisions 3 related to sprinkler systems in rental housing. Any housing 4 code provisions adopted pursuant to this subsection shall 5 only apply to newly constructed rental units or substantially 6 renovated rental units. For the purposes of this subsection, 7 “substantially renovated” means renovations that include repairs 8 or improvements to more than fifty percent of the rental unit. 9 EXPLANATION 10 This bill relates to city regulation of sprinkler systems in 11 rental housing. 12 The bill states that a city may adopt housing code provisions 13 related to sprinkler systems in rental housing. The bill 14 states that any such housing code provisions shall only apply 15 to newly constructed rental units or substantially renovated 16 rental units.
