170.4A
Requirements
for
keeping

whitetail
——
identification
as
farm
deer.

1.
A
landowner
shall
not
keep
whitetail
as
farm
deer
unless
3
each
whitetail
is
individually
identified
with
a
distinctive
4
and
easily
discernible
ear
tag
affixed
in
either
ear
of
the
5
animal
as
specified
by
rule
promulgated
under
the
department’s
6
rulemaking
authority.
The
department
shall
make
the
ear
tags
7
available
to
landowners
and
others
at
convenient
locations
8
within
each
county
and
shall
sell
such
tags
at
a
price
not
9
exceeding
the
cost
of
the
tag.

2.
Each
landowner
shall
keep
a
record
of
the
ear
tag
numbers
11
for
all
whitetail
kept
by
that
person
as
farm
deer,
and
make
12
those
records
available
to
any
appropriate
representative
of
13
the
department
of
agriculture
and
land
stewardship
or
the
14
department
of
natural
resources.

Section
170.5,
subsection
1,
Code
2011,
is
amended

by
adding
the
following
new
paragraph:

verifying
that

landowner

numbers

all
whitetail
kept
as

farm
deer
as
required
pursuant
to
section
170.4A.

is
amended

by
adding
the
following
new
paragraph:

the

EXPLANATION
28
This
bill
requires
a
landowner
who
keeps
whitetail
as
farm
29
deer
to
individually
identify
each
whitetail
with
a
distinctive
30
and
easily
discernible
ear
tag,
as
specified
by
rule.
The

department
shall
make
the
ear
tags
available
to
landowners
32
and
others
at
convenient
locations
within
each
county
and

shall
sell
the
tags
at
a
price
not

the

the
landowner
provides
a
statement
to

the
department
of
agriculture
and
land
stewardship
and
the

department
of
natural
resources
verifying
that
there
is
a

record
of
the
ear
tag
numbers
of
the
whitetail
being
released.

The
department
of
agriculture
and
land
stewardship
may
10
suspend
or
revoke
a
fence
certification
allowing
a
landowner
to
11
keep
whitetail
as
farm
deer
if
the
landowner
fails
to
properly
12
tag
the
whitetail,
fails
to
keep
proper
records
of
the
ear
13
tag
numbers,
or
fails
to
make
such
records
available
to
an
14
appropriate
person
as
required
by
the
bill.
