Section 100D.1, subsection 11, Code 2011, is 1 amended to read as follows: 2 11. “Routine maintenance” means the repair or replacement 3 of existing fire protection system components of the same size 4 and type for which no changes in configuration are made, and 5 does not include any new installation or the expansion or 6 extension of any existing fire protection system including the 7 replacement of sprinkler heads or nozzles and the temporary 8 disabling and subsequent restarting of a system as necessary to 9 perform such routine maintenance. “Routine maintenance” does 10 not include any new installation or the expansion or extension 11 of any existing fire protection system . 12 Sec. 2. EFFECTIVE UPON ENACTMENT. This Act, being deemed of 13 immediate importance, takes effect upon enactment. 14 EXPLANATION 15 This bill revises the definition of routine maintenance of 16 a fire protection system, expanding the definition to include 17 the replacement of sprinkler heads or nozzles and the temporary 18 disabling and subsequent restarting of a system as necessary to 19 perform such routine maintenance. 20 Persons who perform only routine maintenance are not 21 required to be licensed. 22 The bill takes effect upon enactment. 23 -1- LSB 1937XC (3) 84 jr/rj 1/ 1
