S.F. _____ H.F. _____ Section 1. Section 261.4, Code 2011, is amended to read as 1 follows: 2 261.4 Funds —— compensation and expenses of commission. 3 1. The director of the department of administrative 4 services shall keep an accounting of all funds received and 5 expended by the college student aid commission. 6 2. The members of the college student aid commission, except 7 those members who are employees of the state, shall be paid a 8 per diem as specified in section 7E.6 and shall be reimbursed 9 for actual and necessary expenses. All per diem and expense 10 moneys paid to nonlegislative members shall be paid from funds 11 appropriated to the commission. Legislative members of the 12 commission shall receive payment pursuant to section 2.10 and 13 section 2.12 . 14 3. Up to six percent of the moneys appropriated annually 15 to the college student aid commission may be utilized by the 16 commission for the administration of this chapter, including 17 but not limited to the administration of student financial 18 aid programs for Iowa students and their families and the 19 development and implementation of educational programs and 20 marketing strategies designed to inform students and parents 21 about the options available for planning, preparing, and 22 paying for a college education and the need to accumulate the 23 financial resources necessary to pay for a college education. 24 EXPLANATION 25 This bill authorizes the college student aid commission to 26 use up to 6 percent of the moneys appropriated annually by 27 the General Assembly to the commission for the administration 28 of Code chapter 261, including but not limited to the 29 administration of student financial aid programs and for the 30 development and implementation of educational programs and 31 marketing strategies to inform students and parents about 32 options available for planning, preparing, and paying for a 33 college education. 34 -1- LSB 1207XD (3) 84 kh/nh 1/ 1
