A
Resolution
urging
Congress
and
the
President
of
the
1
United
States
to
protect
America’s
national
guard
2
units
from
additional
budget
cuts.
3
WHEREAS,
state
militias,
now
known
as
the
national
4
guard,
have
been
a
bulwark
of
this
nation’s
military
5
defense
system
since
1776;
and
6
WHEREAS,
now
in
the
21st
century
America
relies
on
7
the
citizen-soldiers
of
the
guard
like
never
before,
8
from
providing
cybersecurity
to
piloting
Predator
and
9
Reaper
unmanned
drones,
while
still
providing
the
10
traditional
role
as
“boots
on
the
ground”;
and
11
WHEREAS,
defense
budget
cuts
ranging
from
$450
12
billion
up
to
$1
trillion
over
the
next
decade
will
13
force
each
branch
of
the
military
service
to
reexamine
14
its
balance
of
forces
in
the
active
duty,
guard,
and
15
reserve
branches;
and
16
WHEREAS,
these
cuts
threaten
to
reverse
progress
17
made
over
the
past
10
years
in
which
guard
units
have
18
completed
multiple
deployments
and
upgraded
both
skills
19
and
equipment;
NOW
THEREFORE,
20
BE
IT
RESOLVED
BY
THE
SENATE,
That
the
Senate
urges
21
the
President
of
the
United
States,
the
United
States
22
Congress,
and
the
United
States
Secretary
of
Defense
to
23
protect
the
national
guard
from
any
future
reductions
24
or
other
budget
cuts;
and
25
BE
IT
FURTHER
RESOLVED,
That
an
official
copy
of
26
this
resolution
be
transmitted
to
the
President
of
the
27
