S.F. 368 Section 1. NEW SECTION . 45.3A Filing of birth certificates 1 —— presidential and vice presidential candidates. 2 1. A candidate for president or vice president shall attach 3 to and file with the affidavit of candidacy a copy of the 4 candidate’s birth certificate certified by the appropriate 5 official in the candidate’s state of birth. The certified copy 6 shall be made part of the affidavit of candidacy and shall be 7 made available for public inspection in the same manner as the 8 affidavit of candidacy. 9 2. A candidate for president or vice president who does 10 not comply with the requirements of this section shall not 11 be eligible for placement on the ballot as a candidate for 12 president or vice president anywhere in the state. 13 EXPLANATION 14 This bill provides that candidates for president and vice 15 president shall file, along with their affidavit of candidacy, 16 a certified copy of the candidate’s birth certificate which 17 shall be made available for public inspection in the same 18 manner as the candidate’s affidavit of candidacy. The bill 19 further provides that a candidate for president or vice 20 president who does not attach to the affidavit of candidacy a 21 certified copy of the candidate’s birth certificate shall not 22 be eligible for placement on the ballot anywhere in the state. 23 -1- LSB 2503XS (2) 84 sc/nh 1/ 1
