Section
1.
Section
105.20,
subsection
6,
Code
2011,
is
1
amended
to
read
as
follows:

6.
a.
The
board
shall
establish
continuing
education
3
requirements
pursuant
to
section
272C.2
.
The
basic
continuing
4
education
requirement
for
renewal
of
a
license
shall
be
the
5
completion,
during
the
immediately
preceding
license
term,
6
of
the
number
of
classroom
hours
of
instruction
required
by
7
the
board
in
courses
or
seminars
which
have
been
approved
by
8
the
board.
Courses
may
be
offered
through
the
internet,
the
9
Iowa
communications
network,
or
other
remote
learning
system.
10
The
board
shall
require
at
least
eight
classroom
hours
of
11
instruction
during
each
licensing
term.
12
b.
A
licensee
who,
for
good
cause,
is
unable
to
complete
13
the
instruction
requirement
during
the
immediately
preceding
14
licensing
term
shall
be
provided
with
a
three-month
extension
15
to
obtain
the
required
instruction.

Sec.
2.
Section
135.11,
Code
2011,
is
amended
by
adding
the
17
following
new
subsection:

NEW
SUBSECTION
.
31.
The
department
shall
offer
continuing
19
education
instruction
for
plumbers,
mechanical
professionals,
20
and
contractors
in
accordance
with
the
requirements
established
21
by
the
plumbing
and
mechanical
systems
board
pursuant
to
22
section
105.20.
This
instruction
shall
be
made
available
23
throughout
the
state
and
throughout
the
year.
Courses
may
be
24
offered
through
the
internet,
the
Iowa
communications
network,
25
or
other
remote
learning
system.

EXPLANATION
27
This
bill
allows
licensed
plumbers,
mechanical
28
professionals,
and
contractors
to
obtain
their
required
29
continuing
education
through
the
internet,
the
Iowa
30
communications
network,
or
other
remote
learning
system.
31
A
licensee
who,
for
good
cause,
is
unable
to
complete
the
32
instruction
requirement
is
entitled
to
a
three-month
extension
33
to
obtain
the
required
instruction.
34
The
department
of
public
health
is
required
to
offer
35
