NEW SECTION . 29C.20C Flood damaged structures 1 —— public purchase. 2 If the president, at the request of the governor, declares 3 a major disaster to exist in this state due to flooding, 4 the state hazard mitigation officer under the federal hazard 5 mitigation grant program administered by the federal emergency 6 management agency, in coordination and cooperation with 7 representatives of the federal emergency management agency, 8 shall meet with representatives of the local governments 9 included under the disaster declaration for purposes of 10 identifying structures with damage assessments equal to fifty 11 percent or more of the replacement cost of the structure. 12 Within three months from the time the disaster began, purchase 13 of the identified structures shall be completed under the 14 program. 15 EXPLANATION 16 This bill relates to the purchase of flood damaged 17 structures under the federal hazard mitigation grant program. 18 If a major disaster due to flooding is declared by the 19 president of the United States, the bill requires the state 20 hazard mitigation officer in coordination and cooperation with 21 representatives of the federal emergency management agency to 22 meet with representatives of the local governments included 23 under the disaster declaration for purposes of identifying 24 structures with damage assessments equal to 50 percent or more 25 of the replacement cost of the structure.
