S.F. 22 Section 1. Section 279.23, subsection 4, Code 2011, is 1 amended to read as follows: 2 4. For purposes of this section and sections 279.23A , 3 279.24 , and 279.25 , the term “administrator” includes school 4 superintendents, assistant superintendents, educational 5 directors employed by school districts for grades kindergarten 6 through twelve, educational directors employed by area 7 education agencies under chapter 273 , principals, assistant 8 principals, other certified school supervisors employed 9 by school districts for grades kindergarten through twelve 10 as defined under section 20.4 , and other certified school 11 supervisors employed by area education agencies under chapter 12 273 . For purposes of this section and sections 279.23A , 13 279.24 , and 279.25 , with regard to community college employees, 14 “administrator” includes the administrator of an instructional 15 division or an area of instructional responsibility, and the 16 administrator of an instructional unit, department, or section 17 does not include community college employees . 18 Sec. 2. APPLICABILITY. This Act applies to contracts 19 entered into or renewed on or after the effective date of this 20 Act. 21 EXPLANATION 22 This bill provides that the contract provisions that 23 apply to school district administrators, including automatic 24 continuation, termination for just cause, and due process 25 procedures for termination of a contract, do not apply to 26 community college employees.
