S.F. 218 Section 1. Section 97B.1A, subsection 8, paragraph b, Code 1 2011, is amended by adding the following new subparagraph: 2 NEW SUBPARAGRAPH . (04) Permanent employees of the 3 department of public health or the department of human services 4 hired on or after July 1, 2011, for part-time employment of 5 one thousand three hundred hours or less on an annualized 6 basis. An employee of the department of public health or the 7 department of human services who works for an employer for more 8 than one thousand three hundred hours, on an annualized basis, 9 is not a part-time employee under this subparagraph. 10 EXPLANATION 11 This bill provides that any newly hired part-time employee 12 of the department of public health or the department of human 13 services working 1,300 hours or less on an annualized basis 14 is not eligible to participate in the Iowa public employees’ 15 retirement system (IPERS). 16 In terms of an employee’s weekly hours, any employee of these 17 departments working 25 hours or less per week would not be 18 eligible for participation in the system. 19 -1- LSB 1925XS (3) 84 aw/sc 1/ 1
