S.F. 2044 Section 1. Section 157.8, subsection 1, Code 2011, is 1 amended to read as follows: 2 1. It is unlawful for a school of cosmetology arts and 3 sciences to operate unless the owner has obtained a license 4 issued by the department. The owner shall file a verified 5 application with the department on forms prescribed by the 6 board. 7 1A. a. The application for a license for a school shall 8 be accompanied by the annual license fee determined pursuant 9 to section 147.80 and shall state the name and location of the 10 school and such other additional information as the board may 11 require. The license is valid for one year and may be renewed. 12 b. The license shall contain a statement which provides that 13 the licensee is approved by the department as a provider of 14 postsecondary education. 15 c. A license for a school of cosmetology arts and sciences 16 shall not be issued for any space in any location where the 17 same space is also licensed as a barber school. 18 d. The school of cosmetology arts and sciences must pass a 19 sanitary inspection under section 157.6 . An annual inspection 20 of each school of cosmetology arts and sciences, including the 21 educational activities of each school, shall be conducted and 22 completed by the board or its designee prior to renewal of the 23 license. 24 EXPLANATION 25 This bill provides that a license for a school of cosmetology 26 arts and sciences shall contain a statement which provides that 27 the licensee is approved by the department of public health as 28 a provider of postsecondary education. 29 -1- LSB 5698XS (5) 84 jr/nh 1/ 1
