S.F. 2037 Section 1. Section 321.189, Code 2011, is amended by adding 1 the following new subsection: 2 NEW SUBSECTION . 8. Veteran status. Upon request of a 3 licensee who is a veteran of the armed forces of the United 4 States, the word “VETERAN” shall appear prominently on the 5 face of the license. Such a license shall be issued only upon 6 receipt of satisfactory proof of veteran status pursuant to 7 procedures established by the department. 8 Sec. 2. Section 321.190, subsection 1, paragraph b, Code 9 Supplement 2011, is amended to read as follows: 10 b. (1) The department shall not issue a card to a person 11 holding a driver’s license. However, a card may be issued to a 12 person holding a temporary permit under section 321.181 . The 13 card shall be identical in form to a driver’s license issued 14 under section 321.189 except the word “nonoperator” shall 15 appear prominently on the face of the card. 16 (2) A nonoperator’s identification card issued to a person 17 under eighteen years of age shall contain the same information 18 as any other nonoperator’s identification card except that the 19 words “under eighteen” shall appear prominently on the face of 20 the card. 21 (3) A nonoperator’s identification card issued to a 22 person eighteen years of age or older but under twenty-one 23 years of age shall contain the same information as any other 24 nonoperator’s identification card except that the words “under 25 twenty-one” shall appear prominently on the face of the card. 26 (4) A nonoperator’s identification card issued to a veteran 27 of the armed forces of the United States who satisfies the 28 requirements of section 321.189, subsection 8, shall contain 29 the same information as any other nonoperator’s identification 30 card except the word “VETERAN” shall appear prominently on the 31 face of the card. 32 EXPLANATION 33 This bill provides that a person who is a veteran of the 34 armed forces of the United States may request to have that 35 -1- LSB 5540SS (2) 84 aw/nh 1/ 2
S.F. 2037 status noted on the person’s driver’s license or nonoperator’s 1 identification card. A veteran making such a request is 2 required to provide proof of veteran status.
