NEW SECTION . 34A.11 Communications —— single 1 point of contact. 2 A public or private safety agency that determines that a 3 need, issue, or concern exists or has arisen in connection 4 with the provision of public safety communications within an 5 enhanced 911 service area shall file, register, or otherwise 6 convey the need, issue, or concern to the joint E911 service 7 board maintained within the area, or an alternative legal 8 entity created pursuant to chapter 28E as provided in 9 section 34A.3, subsection 3. The joint E911 service board 10 or alternative legal entity shall serve as the single point 11 of contact with regard to the receipt of public safety 12 communications needs, issues, or concerns, and shall take such 13 action with regard to the disposition of the need, issue, or 14 concern as the board or entity in its discretion determines 15 appropriate. 16 EXPLANATION 17 This bill provides that if a public or private safety agency 18 has a need, issue, or concern in connection with the provision 19 of public safety communications within an enhanced 911 service 20 area, the agency shall file, register, or otherwise convey 21 the need, issue, or concern to the joint E911 service board 22 maintained within the area, or an alternative legal entity 23 established as provided in Code section 34A.3, subsection 24 3. The bill directs the applicable joint E911 service 25 board or alternative legal entity to serve as the single 26 point of contact with regard to the receipt of public safety 27 communications needs, issues, or concerns, and authorizes 28 the board or entity to take such action with regard to the 29 disposition of the need, issue, or concern as the board or 30 entity in its discretion determines appropriate. 31 -1- LSB 5100XS (2) 84 rn/nh 1/ 1
