Carrying
weapons
in
state
1
and
municipal
buildings.

1.
A
person
who
goes
armed
with,
carries,
or
transports
3
a
firearm
of
any
kind,
whether
concealed
or
not,
in
a
state
4
building
or
a
municipal
building
commits
a
serious
misdemeanor.

2.
For
the
purposes
of
this
section:
6
a.
“Municipal
building”
means
a
building
owned
or
leased
7
by
a
city
or
county,
or
an
agency
or
department
of
a
city
or
8
county.

b.
“State
building”
means
a
building
owned
by
or
leased
by
10
the
state,
or
an
agency
or
department
of
the
state.

Subsection
1
does
not
apply
to
the
following:
12
a.
A
person
listed
under
section
724.4,
subsection
4,
13
paragraphs
“b”
through
“d”
,
“j”
,
or
“k”
.

b.
A
person
who
has
been
specifically
authorized
by
the
15
state
or
municipality
to
go
armed,
carry,
or
transport
a
16
firearm
in
the
state
or
municipal
building,
including
for
17
purposes
of
conducting
an
instructional
program
regarding
18
firearms.

EXPLANATION
20
This
bill
provides
that
a
person
who
goes
armed
with,
21
carries,
or
transports
a
firearm
of
any
kind,
whether
concealed
22
or
not,
in
a
state
building
or
a
municipal
building
commits
a
23
serious
misdemeanor,
punishable
by
confinement
for
no
more
than
24
one
year
and
a
fine
of
at
least
$315
but
not
more
than
$1,875.

For
purposes
of
the
bill,
“state
building”
means
a
building
26
owned
by
or
leased
by
the
state,
or
an
agency
or
department
of
27
the
state,
and
a
“municipal
building”
means
a
building
owned
28
or
leased
by
a
city
or
county,
or
an
agency
or
department
of
a
29
city
or
county.
30
The
bill
does
not
apply
to
a
peace
officer,
when
the
31
officer’s
duties
require
the
person
to
carry
weapons;
a
member
32
of
the
armed
forces
of
the
United
States
or
of
the
national
33
guard
or
person
in
the
service
of
the
United
States,
when
the
34
weapons
are
carried
in
connection
with
the
person’s
duties;

a
correctional
officer,
when
the
officer’s
duties
require,
1
serving
under
the
authority
of
the
department
of
corrections;
a
2
law
enforcement
officer
from
another
state
when
the
officer’s

duties
require
the
officer
to
carry
the
weapon
and
the
officer
4
is
in
this
state
for
the
extradition
or
other
lawful
removal
of
5
a
prisoner
from
this
state,
pursuit
of
a
suspect
in
compliance
6
with
Code
chapter
806,
or
activities
in
the
capacity
of
a
law
7
enforcement
officer
with
the
knowledge
and
consent
of
the
chief
8
of
police
of
the
city
or
the
sheriff
of
the
county
in
which
9
the
activities
occur
or
of
the
commissioner
of
public
safety;
10
a
person
engaged
in
the
business
of
transporting
prisoners
11
under
a
contract
with
the
department
of
corrections
or
a
county
12
sheriff,
a
similar
agency
from
another
state,
or
the
federal
13
government;
or
a
person
who
has
been
specifically
authorized
14
by
the
state,
city,
or
county
to
go
armed,
carry,
or
transport
15
a
firearm
in
the
state
or
municipal
building,
including
for
16
purposes
of
conducting
an
instructional
program
regarding
17
firearms.
