Resolution
honoring
the
four-decade
saga
of
the
USS

Dubuque
and
its
crew.

WHEREAS,
after
over
40
years
of
service,
from
3
Vietnam
to
the
Horn
of
Africa,
the
USS
Dubuque
is
4
scheduled
for
decommissioning
on
June
30,
2011,
and
5
will
be
placed
in
reserve;
and
6
WHEREAS,
LPD-8,
as
the
USS
Dubuque
is
designated,
7
was
commissioned
in
1967
as
an
amphibious
transport
8
dock;
and
9
WHEREAS,
the
USS
Dubuque
saw
extensive
duty
in
10
Vietnam,
earning
eight
campaign
stars
for
Vietnam
11
service,
and
in
a
highly
publicized
event
in
October
12
1968,
the
ship
returned
14
repatriated
prisoners
of
war
13
to
North
Vietnam;
and
14
WHEREAS,
in
the
final
chapter
of
the
Vietnam
15
conflict,
in
April
1975
the
USS
Dubuque
participated
16
in
the
evacuation
of
Saigon
and
the
rescue
of
refugees
17
fleeing
South
Vietnam;
and
18
WHEREAS,
over
the
decades
the
USS
Dubuque
saw
19
service
throughout
the
globe
and
has
received
two
20
Navy
Unit
Commendations,
four
Meritorious
Unit
21
Commendations,
three
Battle
Efficiency
Awards,
22
three
Armed
Forces
Expeditionary
Medals,
and
four
23
Humanitarian
Service
Medals,
and
participated
in
24
countless
amphibious
exercises
and
operations
25
throughout
the
Western
Pacific
and
Indian
Oceans;
and
26
WHEREAS,
most
recently
in
2010
the
USS
Dubuque
and
27

crew
completed
a
humanitarian
mission,
providing
1
support
services
in
a
massive
humanitarian
and

disaster
relief
effort
for
the
flood-ravaged
nation
of

Pakistan;
NOW
THEREFORE,

BE
IT
RESOLVED
BY
THE
HOUSE
OF
REPRESENTATIVES,
5
That
the
House
of
Representatives
honors
the
men
and
6
women
who
have
served
aboard
the
USS
Dubuque
and
honors
7
the
ship
itself
for
over
four
decades
of
military
and
8
humanitarian
service.
