Resolution
to
recognize
the
Trinity
United
Methodist

Church
building
in
Des
Moines
on
its
centennial.

WHEREAS,
for
over
a
century
Trinity
United
Methodist
3
Church
has
been
a
part
of
the
Riverbend
community
of
4
Des
Moines,
acting
as
a
witness
for
peace
and
social
5
justice
and
a
haven
for
compassion,
feeding
both
body
6
and
soul
of
those
in
the
community;
and
7
WHEREAS,
Trinity
United
has
been
a
place
of
worship,
8
a
place
of
Christian
education,
and
a
place
where
9
diverse
people
are
surrounded
by
a
community
of
love
10
and
are
sent
out
into
the
world
to
put
their
faith
into
11
action;
and
12
WHEREAS,
Trinity
United
embraces
three
ministries,
13
including
the
Trinity
United
Methodist
Church,
Las
14
Americas
Communidad
de
Fe,
and
Children
and
Family
15
Urban
Ministries;
and
16
WHEREAS,
these
three
ministries
offer
a
variety
of
17
community
programs,
including
a
prison
ministry
and
an
18
English-as-a-second-language
program;
and
19
WHEREAS,
feeding
both
the
body
and
soul
is
most
20
evident
in
the
daily
work
of
these
ministries,
where
21
every
day
some
300
people
come
through
the
doors,
22
some
for
a
before-school
breakfast
or
an
after-school
23
program
for
children
and
youth,
some
to
learn
English,
24
some
to
attend
a
citizenship
class,
and
some
to
simply
25
get
a
wholesome
meal
in
these
hard
times
where
the
26
daily
free
supper
which
normally
serves
around
120
27
persons
now
serves
as
many
as
170
persons;
and

WHEREAS,
Trinity
United
Methodist
Church
can
best
1
be
summed
up
in
the
words
of
one
parishioner,
“Trinity
2
continues
to
go
out
of
its
way
to
be
a
beacon
and
a
3
refuge
[bringing]…
hope
to
those
without
hope,
joy
4
to
the
sorrowful
[and]
relief
to
the
marginalized
of
5
society”;
NOW
THEREFORE,
6
BE
IT
RESOLVED
BY
THE
HOUSE
OF
REPRESENTATIVES,
That
7
the
House
of
Representatives
honors
the
centennial
of
8
the
Trinity
United
Methodist
Church
building
as
it
9
begins
its
second
century
of
service,
and
urges
the
10
people
of
Des
Moines
to
join
the
Trinity
Centennial
11
Celebration,
June
11
and
12,
2011,
at
the
landmark
12
church,
located
at
the
corner
of
College
and
8th
13
Streets
in
Des
Moines.
