House Resolution 36 - Introduced HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 36 BY KELLEY , HELLAND , KEARNS , MUHLBAUER , KOESTER , and CHAMBERS A Resolution to recognize the efforts of Patriot 1 Outreach, Inc. in supporting Iowa’s veterans and 2 their families. 3 WHEREAS, our nation was founded on the principles of 4 liberty, opportunity, and justice for all, principles 5 which the men and women of our armed forces have 6 valiantly defended throughout our nation’s history; and 7 WHEREAS, thousands of Iowans have proudly served in 8 the armed forces, and by answering the call of duty 9 risked their lives in response to combat, peacekeeping 10 missions, rescue operations, and humanitarian relief 11 efforts; and 12 WHEREAS, mental health is essential to everyone’s 13 overall health and well-being; and 14 WHEREAS, our brave soldier-citizens face significant 15 challenges in readjusting from the stress of combat to 16 their civilian lives, and family members experience 17 emotional challenges coping with a loved one in 18 danger; and 19 WHEREAS, Patriot Outreach, Inc., a nonprofit 20 organization, founded in the city of Davenport, Iowa, 21 has provided simple, effective, nonintrusive support, 22 designed to bridge the gap between those who seek help 23 and the silent majority who avoid the stigma of seeking 24 assistance; and 25 WHEREAS, Patriot Outreach, Inc. has provided 55,000 26 “Coping Strategies” compact disks and has provided over 27 -1- LSB 2758HH (7) 84 jr/rj 1/ 2
H.R. 36 34,000 downloads to all branches of the armed forces, 1 veterans, first responders, government civilians, 2 battlefield contractors, and their families; and 3 WHEREAS, these requests do pay tribute to the 4 testimonials attesting to their effectiveness in 5 combating anger, stress, pain, and even posttraumatic 6 stress disorder, with the most notable bulk requests 7 for the compact disks received from the 82nd Airborne 8 Division, 5,000 copies; from the 91st Division, 3,000 9 copies; from Fort Hood, 3,500 copies; from Joint Task 10 Force Headquarters, 1,500 copies; from USO, 1,000 11 copies; and from the Iowa VFW, 8,000 copies; NOW 12 THEREFORE, 13 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, That 14 the House of Representatives recognizes all volunteer 15 organizations that are dedicated to helping the men and 16 women who have served our country, including Patriot 17 Outreach, Inc., and encourage more Iowans to volunteer 18 their services in support of Iowa’s veterans and their 19 families. 20 -2- LSB 2758HH (7) 84 jr/rj 2/ 2
