celebrating
the
centennial
of
Trinity

Methodist
Church
of
Des
Moines.

WHEREAS,
for
over
a
century
Trinity
United
Methodist
3
Church
has
been
a
part
of
the
Riverbend
community
of
4
Des
Moines,
acting
as
a
witness
for
peace
and
social
5
justice
and
a
haven
for
compassion,
feeding
both
body
6
and
soul
of
those
in
the
community;
and
7
WHEREAS,
Trinity
United
has
been
a
place
of
worship,
8
a
place
of
Christian
education,
and
a
place
where
9
diverse
people
are
surrounded
by
a
community
of
love
10
and
are
sent
out
into
the
world
to
put
their
faith
into
11
action;
and
12
WHEREAS,
Trinity
United
embraces
three
ministries,
13
including
the
Trinity
United
Methodist
Church,
Las
14
Americas
faith
community,
and
children
and
family
urban
15
ministries;
and
16
WHEREAS,
these
three
ministries
offer
a
variety
of
17
community
programs,
including
a
prison
ministry
and
an
18
English-as-a-second-language
program;
and
19
WHEREAS,
feeding
both
the
body
and
soul
is
most
20
evident
in
the
daily
work
of
these
ministries,
where
21
every
day
some
300
people
come
through
the
doors,
22
some
to
learn
English,
some
to
attend
a
citizenship
23
class,
and
some
to
simply
get
a
wholesome
meal
in
these
24
hard
times
where
the
daily
free
supper
which
normally
25
serves
around
120
persons
now
serves
as
many
as
170
26
persons;
and
27
WHEREAS,
Trinity
United
Methodist
Church
can
best
be

up
in
the
words
of
one
parishioner:
“Trinity

continues
to
go
out
of
its
way
to
be
a
beacon
and
a

refuge
[bringing]…
hope
to
those
without
hope,
joy

to
the
sorrowful
[and]
relief
to
the
marginalized
of
4
society”;
NOW
THEREFORE,
5
BE
IT
RESOLVED
BY
THE
HOUSE
OF
REPRESENTATIVES,
That
6
the
House
of
Representatives
honors
the
centennial
of
7
Trinity
United
Methodist
Church
as
it
enters
into
its
8
second
century
of
faith
and
service,
and
urges
the
9
people
of
Des
Moines
to
join
the
Trinity
Centennial
10
Celebration,
June
11
and
12,
2011,
at
the
landmark
11
church,
located
at
the
corner
of
College
and
8th
12
Streets
in
Des
Moines.
