Resolution
to
acknowledge
the
genocide
in
Bosnia
and

Herzegovina.

WHEREAS,
the
United
States
Senate
and
the
United
3
States
House
of
Representatives
passed
resolutions
in
4
2005
acknowledging
the
genocide
that
Serbian
forces
5
perpetrated
in
all
of
Bosnia
from
1992
to
1995
and
in
6
Srebrenica;
and
7
WHEREAS,
July
11,
2011,
is
commemorated
as
the
8
anniversary
of
the
Srebrenica
massacre,
in
which
at
9
least
8,372
innocent
Bosniak
civilians
were
summarily
10
executed
and
30,000
were
expelled
from
their
homes
in
11
the
worst
atrocity
in
Europe
since
the
Holocaust;
and
12
WHEREAS,
this
anniversary
raises
awareness
of
the
13
tragic
suffering
of
the
Bosnian
and
Herzegovinian
14
people
and
honors
and
remembers
those
who
died
as
15
a
result
of
the
policies
of
ethnic
cleansing
and
16
aggression;
and
17
WHEREAS,
Iowans
recognize
the
importance
of
this
18
event,
which
seeks
to
bring
closure
for
the
Bosnian
and
19
Herzegovinian
people
through
justice
and
truth;
NOW
20
THEREFORE,
21
BE
IT
RESOLVED
BY
THE
HOUSE
OF
REPRESENTATIVES,
That
22
the
House
of
Representatives
recognizes
July
11,
2011,
23
as
Srebrenica
Remembrance
Day
in
the
State
of
Iowa;
and
24
BE
IT
FURTHER
RESOLVED,
That
the
House
of
25
Representatives
designates
the
week
of
July
11,
2011,
26
as
Bosnia
and
Herzegovina
Tribute
Week
in
the
State
of
27

calls
