House Resolution 19 - Introduced HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 19 BY KOESTER and BERRY A Resolution honoring TRIO programs and TRIO students 1 in the state of Iowa. 2 WHEREAS, TRIO programs assist first-generation, 3 low-income, and disabled students in their pursuit of 4 higher education, bridging the educational attainment 5 gap for this demographic, and making college access a 6 reality for thousands of otherwise underrepresented 7 Iowans; and 8 WHEREAS, TRIO students are assisted with all facets 9 of the college admissions and financial aid process, 10 guided through the education pipeline, helped in 11 overcoming class, social, academic, and cultural 12 barriers to higher education, all of which is done 13 in an effort to guarantee their preparedness for, and 14 success in, postsecondary education; and 15 WHEREAS, TRIO students commit their time and energy 16 to the pursuit of higher education, give back to their 17 schools and communities, and work tirelessly to better 18 themselves, their families, and all who they come in 19 contact with; and 20 WHEREAS, TRIO students go on to graduate from 21 institutions of higher education, become successful 22 working professionals, and end the cycles of poverty, 23 ignorance, and lack of access to higher education; NOW 24 THEREFORE, 25 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, That 26 the House of Representatives honors those TRIO programs 27 and students who commit to increasing the number of 28 -1- LSB 2430HH (3) 84 jr/nh 1/ 2
