House Resolution 121 - Introduced HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 121 BY BAUDLER A Resolution honoring Hannah Jorgensen, the Iowa 1 Prudential Spirit of Community Award winner. 2 WHEREAS, since 1995, the Prudential Financial 3 Corporation and the National Association of Secondary 4 School Principals honor outstanding secondary school 5 students, on an annual basis, whose school or community 6 volunteer projects merit special recognition as 7 examples of outstanding civic initiatives; and 8 WHEREAS, now in its 17th year, judges from each 9 state select two state, district, or commonwealth 10 honorees who receive a $1,000 cash award, an engraved 11 silver medallion, and an all-expense-paid trip in 12 May to Washington, D.C., to compete in a national 13 competition for further recognition; and 14 WHEREAS, Hannah Jorgensen, a seventh-grader at 15 Adair-Casey Junior-Senior High School, organized a 16 campaign to make personal care kits and sew pillowcases 17 for families in transition from a local homeless 18 shelter to more permanent quarters; and 19 WHEREAS, Miss Jorgensen applied for and received 20 a $700 grant to purchase kit items and material for 21 the pillowcases, recruited dozens of student and 22 adult volunteers, and delivered 90 pillowcases and 23 90 personal care kits to the homeless shelter; NOW 24 THEREFORE, 25 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, That 26 the House of Representatives honors this remarkable 27 young Iowan, Hannah Jorgensen, for her dedication 28 -1- LSB 6078HH (2) 84 jr/nh 1/ 2
