H.F. 519 Section 1. Section 48A.9, subsection 1, Code 2011, is 1 amended to read as follows: 2 1. Registration closes at five 5:00 p.m. eleven days 3 before each election except primary and the general elections 4 election . For primary and the general elections election , 5 registration closes at five 5:00 p.m. ten days before the 6 election. An eligible elector may register during the time 7 registration is closed in the elector’s precinct but the 8 registration shall not become effective until registration 9 opens again in the elector’s precinct, except as otherwise 10 provided in section 48A.7A . 11 EXPLANATION 12 This bill relates to voter registration. 13 The bill provides that voter registration for primary 14 elections shall close at 5:00 p.m. 11 days before the primary. 15 Current law provides that voter registration for both general 16 and primary elections close 10 days before the primary.
