Section
1.
Section
80.18,
Code
2011,
is
amended
to
read
as
1
follows:

80.18
Expenses
and
supplies
——
reimbursement.
3
1.
The
commissioner
shall
provide
peace
officers
of
the
4
department
when
on
duty,
with
suitable
uniforms,
subsistence,
5
arms,
equipment,
quarters,
and
other
necessary
supplies,
and
6
also
the
expense
and
means
of
travel
and
boarding,
according
7
to
rules
adopted
by
the
commissioner,
and
as
may
be
provided
8
by
appropriation.
9
2.
The
department
may
expend
moneys
from
the
support
10
allocation
of
the
department
as
reimbursement
for
replacement
11
or
repair
of
personal
items
of
the
department’s
peace
officers
12
or
employees
damaged
or
destroyed
during
a
peace
officer’s
or
13
employee’s
course
of
employment.
However,
the
reimbursement
14
shall
not
exceed
the
greater
of
one
hundred
fifty
dollars
or
15
the
amount
agreed
to
under
the
collective
bargaining
agreement
16
for
each
item.
The
department
shall
adopt
rules
in
accordance
17
with
chapter
17A
to
administer
this
paragraph
subsection
.

The
department
may
adopt
rules
in
accordance
with
chapter
19
17A
to
permit
the
retention
of
uniforms
or
accessories,
or
20
both,
by
a
peace
officer
of
the
Iowa
state
patrol
upon
the
21
peace
officer’s
retirement
or
service-related
disability.

Sec.
2.
Section
331.657,
subsection
2,
Code
2011,
is
amended
23
to
read
as
follows:

2.
The
standard
uniforms
and
accessories
required
by
25
the
sheriff
for
the
proper
outfitting
of
the
sheriff
and
the
26
sheriff’s
full-time
deputies
under
this
section
shall
be
27
provided
by
the
county.
The
uniforms
and
accessories
issued
28
to
the
sheriff
and
the
sheriff’s
deputies
remain
the
property
29
of
the
county.
The
board
may,
however,
by
ordinance
permit
30
the
retention
of
such
uniforms
or
accessories,
or
both,
by
the
31
sheriff
and
sheriff’s
deputies
upon
the
sheriff’s
or
deputy’s
32
retirement
or
service-related
disability.

Sec.
3.
Section
362.10,
Code
2011,
is
amended
to
read
as

The
maximum
age
for
a
police
officer,
marshal,
or
fire

fighter
employed
for
police
duty
or
the
duty
of
fighting
fires

is
sixty-five
years
of
age.
This
section
shall
not
apply
to
4
volunteer
fire
fighters.

The
city
council
may
by
ordinance
permit
chiefs
of
6
police
and
police
officers
employed
by
the
city
to
retain
7
their
uniforms
or
accessories,
or
both,
upon
retirement
or
8
service-related
disability.

EXPLANATION
10
This
bill
expressly
permits
certain
government
agencies
and
11
political
subdivisions
of
the
state
to
allow
law
enforcement
12
officers
of
that
agency
or
subdivision
to
retain
their
13
uniforms
and
service
accessories
upon
their
retirement
or
14
service-related
disability.
15
The
bill
allows
for
the
department
of
public
safety
to
16
adopt
rules
permitting
certain
peace
officers
to
retain
their
17
uniforms
and
service
accessories
upon
their
retirement
or
18
service-related
disability.
Only
a
peace
officer
within
the
19
department
who
is
a
member
of
the
division
of
state
patrol
may
20
be
permitted
to
retain
such
items.
21
The
bill
allows
a
county
board
of
supervisors
to
adopt
an
22
ordinance
permitting
sheriffs
and
deputy
sheriffs
to
retain
23
their
uniforms
and
service
accessories
upon
their
retirement
24
or
service-related
disability.

The
bill
allows
a
city
council
to
adopt
an
ordinance
26
permitting
police
officers
to
retain
their
uniforms
and
27
service
accessories
upon
their
retirement
or
service-related
28
disability.
