Section
1.
Section
256.11,
Code
2011,
is
amended
by
adding

the
following
new
subsection:

SUBSECTION

Teaching
in
the
area
of
health
pursuant

paragraph
“j”
,
shall
be

carried
out
by
a
licensed
practitioner
who
holds
at
least
one

the
following:

An
endorsement
in
the
area
of
health
as
provided
in

13.28(8)
and
an
endorsement
in
the
area
of
family
and

consumer
sciences——general
as
provided
in
282
IAC
13.28(9).

b.
An
endorsement
in
the
area
of
health
as
provided
in
10
282
IAC
13.28(8)
and
an
endorsement
in
the
area
of
biological
11
science
as
provided
in
282
IAC
13.28(17)(b).

c.
A
school
nurse
endorsement
as
provided
in
282
IAC
13
13.28(28).

2.
EFFECTIVE
DATE.
This
Act
takes
effect
July
1,
2013.

EXPLANATION
16
This
bill
provides
that
required
health
classes
in
public
17
and
nonpublic
elementary
and
secondary
schools
be
taught
by
18
licensed
practitioners
who
hold
endorsements
in
the
areas
of
19
health
and
family
and
consumer
science;
the
areas
of
health
and
20
biological
science;
or
as
a
school
nurse.
21
The
bill
is
effective
July
1,
2013.
