subsection

paragraph
a,

Supplement
2011,
is
amended
to
read
as
follows:

a.
Completion
of
a
curriculum
of
massage
education
at
a
3
school
approved
by
the
board
which
requires
for
admission
a
4
diploma
from
an
accredited
high
school
or
the
equivalent
and
5
requires
completion
of
at
least
six
hundred
hours
of
supervised
6
academic
instruction
.
However,
educational
requirements
under
7
this
paragraph
are
subject
to
reduction
by
the
board
if,
after
8
public
notice
and
hearing,
the
board
determines
that
the
9
welfare
of
the
public
may
be
adequately
protected
with
fewer
10
hours
of
education.

EXPLANATION
12
In
order
to
be
licensed
under
current
law,
a
massage
13
therapist
must
complete
a
massage
education
curriculum
at
a
14
school
approved
by
the
board
of
massage
therapy
requiring
at
15
least
600
hours
of
supervised
academic
instruction.
This
bill
16
eliminates
the
600-hour
requirement.
