H.F. 2098 Section 1. Section 321.361, Code 2011, is amended by adding 1 the following new subsection: 2 NEW SUBSECTION . 1A. Local authorities may by ordinance 3 permit vehicles stopped or parked upon a roadway where there 4 are adjacent curbs to be stopped or parked with the left-hand 5 wheels of the vehicle adjacent to and within eighteen inches of 6 the left-hand curb, if deemed safer than stopping or parking 7 as provided in subsection 1 during periods of snow, sleet, 8 or freezing rain or when snow or ice has accumulated on the 9 roadway. However, an ordinance adopted under this subsection 10 shall not apply to a road which is a primary road extension. 11 EXPLANATION 12 This bill relates to parking on the left side of a roadway. 13 The bill permits a political subdivision of the state to adopt 14 an ordinance allowing a vehicle to park on a roadway with the 15 left-hand wheels of a vehicle within 18 inches of the left-hand 16 curb, if the political subdivision deems it safer than parking 17 on the right-hand side of the street during periods of snow, 18 sleet, or freezing rain or when snow or ice has accumulated on 19 the roadway. The provision does not apply to a road which is a 20 primary road extension. Current law prohibits a vehicle from 21 parking with the left-hand wheels adjacent to the left-hand 22 curb unless the roadway is a one-way roadway. 23 -1- LSB 5688HH (2) 84 dea/nh 1/ 1
