H.F. 2039 Section 1. Section 321A.1, subsection 11, Code 2011, is 1 amended to read as follows: 2 11. Proof of financial responsibility. Proof of ability 3 to respond in damages for liability, on account of accidents 4 occurring subsequent to the effective date of the proof, 5 arising out of the ownership, maintenance, or use of a motor 6 vehicle , in amounts as follows: With respect to accidents 7 occurring on or after January 1, 1981, and prior to January 8 1, 1983, the amount of fifteen thousand dollars because of 9 bodily injury to or death of one person in any one accident, 10 and, subject to the limit for one person, the amount of 11 thirty thousand dollars because of bodily injury to or death 12 of two or more persons in any one accident, and the amount 13 of ten thousand dollars because of injury to or destruction 14 of property of others in any one accident; and with respect 15 to accidents occurring on or after January 1, 1983 2013 , the 16 amount of twenty thirty thousand dollars because of bodily 17 injury to or death of one person in any one accident, and, 18 subject to the limit for one person, the amount of forty sixty 19 thousand dollars because of bodily injury to or death of two 20 or more persons in any one accident, and the amount of fifteen 21 twenty-two thousand five hundred dollars because of injury to 22 or destruction of property of others in any one accident. 23 EXPLANATION 24 This bill increases the amounts necessary to provide proof 25 of financial responsibility to respond in damages for liability 26 arising out of the ownership, maintenance, or use of a motor 27 vehicle by 50 percent.
