262.9,
Code
2011,
is
amended
by
adding
1
the
following
new
subsection:

SUBSECTION
.
36.
Direct
each
institution
of
higher
3
education
under
its
control
to
adopt
a
policy
to
facilitate
the
4
provision
of
information,
to
any
student
athlete
who
suffers
an
5
injury
while
participating
in
intercollegiate
sports,
relating
6
to
academic,
medical,
rehabilitative,
accommodative,
and
other
7
services
available
to
such
students
from
the
institution.

a.
Pursuant
to
this
subsection,
the
board
shall
direct
9
each
such
institution
to
appoint
a
student
athlete
injury
10
information
coordinator
from
among
the
institution’s
staff.
11
The
coordinator
shall
be
responsible
for
maintaining
all
12
information
required
by
this
subsection.
The
coordinator
shall
13
provide
all
such
information
to
any
student
athlete
injured
14
while
participating
in
intercollegiate
sports
who
requests
15
it,
and
shall
offer
assistance
in
accessing
the
services
as
16
the
student
may
require.
The
policy
shall
ensure
that
the
17
student
athlete
injury
information
coordinator
is
provided
with
18
up-to-date
information
on
all
services
available
to
injured
19
student
athletes
from
the
institution.
20
b.
The
policy
adopted
pursuant
to
this
subsection
shall
21
provide
for
prompt
notification
to
each
student
athlete
of
22
the
availability
of
the
student
athlete
injury
information
23
coordinator,
how
to
contact
the
student
athlete
injury
24
information
coordinator,
and
the
information
which
the
student
25
athlete
injury
information
coordinator
can
provide.

c.
For
purposes
of
this
subsection:
27
(1)
“Intercollegiate
sport”
means
a
sport
played
at
28
the
collegiate
level
for
which
eligibility
requirements
29
for
participation
by
a
student
athlete
are
established
by
30
a
national
association
for
the
promotion
or
regulation
of
31
collegiate
athletics.

(2)
“Student
athlete”
means
a
person
who
engages
in
any
33
intercollegiate
sporting
event,
contest,
exhibition,
or
34
program.

EXPLANATION
1
This
bill
requires
the
board
of
regents
to
direct
each
2
institution
of
higher
education
under
its
control
to
adopt
3
a
policy
to
facilitate
the
provision
to
any
student
athlete
4
injured
while
participating
in
intercollegiate
sports
of
5
information
relating
to
all
relevant
services
available
to
such
6
students
from
the
institution.
The
bill
requires
the
board
to
7
direct
each
institution
to

a
student
athlete
injury

information
coordinator
from
among
the
institution’s
staff
9
to
collect
such
information,
provide
it
to
injured
student

athletes
upon
request,
and
assist
such
students
in
accessing

coordinator
is
provided
with

services.
The
bill
requires

the
policy
to
provide
for
prompt
notice
to
each
student
athlete

athlete
injury

coordinator.
