WHEREAS,
David
K.
Rehbein
has
just
completed
a
4
year
of
service
as
the
National
Commander
of
the
2.7
5
million-member
American
Legion,
the
nation’s
largest
6
veterans
service
organization;
and
7
WHEREAS,
Mr.
Rehbein
is
a
United
States
Army
8
veteran,
who
served
as
an
infantryman
with
the
4th
and
9
1st
Armored
Divisions
in
Germany
from
1970
to
1971,
10
attaining
the
rank
of
E-5;
and
11
WHEREAS,
following
his
military
service
Mr.
Rehbein
12
came
to
Iowa
to
complete
his
education
at
Iowa
State
13
University,
earning
a
Bachelor
of
Science
degree
in
14
physics
in
1977
and
a
Master
of
Science
degree
in
15
metallurgy
in
1979;
and
16
WHEREAS,
Mr.
Rehbein
then
made
Ames
his
home,
17
working
as
a
research
metallurgist
at
the
Ames
18
Laboratory,
United
States
Department
of
Energy,
where
19
he
remained
until
his
retirement
in
July
2008;
and
20
WHEREAS,
in
1976,
while
still
a
student,
Mr.
Rehbein
21
joined
Post
#37
of
the
American
Legion
in
Ames,
22
beginning
a
33-year
association
that
would
take
him
to
23
the
Legion’s
highest
office;
and
24
WHEREAS,
Mr.
Rehbein
served
as
a
Post
Commander,
a
25
Vice-Commander,
Adjutant,
the
6th
District
Commander,
26
the
State
Vice-Commander,
and
a
member
of
the
National
27
Executive
Committee;
and

WHEREAS,
as
National
Commander
of
the
American

Legion
in
2008
and
2009,
Mr.
Rehbein
traveled
to
2
47
states,
three
United
States
territories,
and
10
3
foreign
countries,
often
accompanied
by
his
wife
Ann,
4
working
tirelessly
on
behalf
of
America’s
soldiers
and
5
veterans;
NOW
THEREFORE,
6
BE
IT
RESOLVED
BY
THE
SENATE,
That
the
Senate
honors
7
the
distinguished
career
of
David
K.
Rehbein
8
——
soldier,
scientist,
and
National
Commander
of
the
9
American
Legion
——
and
thanks
him
for
over
40
years
of
10
service
to
the
nation
and
this
state,
and
to
the
men
11
and
women
who
wear
and
have
worn
the
uniform
of
our
12
armed
forces.
