amended
by
adding
the
following
new
subsection:

NEW
SUBSECTION
.
13.
The
operator
of
a
vehicle
or
3
combination
of
vehicles
equipped
with
a
nonsteerable
4
retractable
axle
may
raise
the
axle
when
reasonably
necessary
5
to
complete
a
turn
of
ninety
degrees
or
less.
The
operator
6
shall
lower
the
axle
to
its
original
position
upon
completion
7
of
the
turn.
A
vehicle
or
combination
of
vehicles
operated
8
with
a
nonsteerable
retractable
axle
raised
as
permitted
under
9
this
subsection
is
exempt
from
the
weight
limitations
of
this
10
section,
as
long
as
the
vehicle
or
combination
of
vehicles
is
11
in
compliance
with
the
weight
limitations
of
this
section
when
12
the
nonsteerable
retractable
axle
is
lowered.

EXPLANATION
14
This
bill
allows
the
operator
of
a
vehicle
or
combination
15
of
vehicles
equipped
with
a
nonsteerable
retractable
axle
to
16
raise
the
axle
when
reasonably
necessary
to
complete
a
turn
of
17
90
degrees
or
less,
and
then
lower
the
axle
upon
completion
18
of
the
turn.
The
vehicle
or
combination
of
vehicles
is
19
exempt
from
weight
limitations
for
the
time
the
nonsteerable
20
retractable
axle
is
raised
to
make
the
turn,
as
long
as
the
21
vehicle
or
combination
of
vehicles
is
in
compliance
with
weight
22
limitations
when
the
nonsteerable
axle
is
lowered.
