S.F. 2131 Section 1. Section 321.1, subsection 40, paragraph a, Code 1 Supplement 2009, is amended to read as follows: 2 a. (1) “Motorcycle” means every motor vehicle having 3 a saddle or seat for the use of the rider and designed to 4 travel on not more than three wheels in contact with the 5 ground including a motor scooter but excluding a tractor and a 6 motorized bicycle. 7 (2) “Motorcycle” includes a motorcycle as defined in 8 subparagraph (1) that is originally designed to travel on two 9 wheels but is modified using a conversion kit that adds two 10 stabilizing wheels on the rear of the motorcycle. 11 EXPLANATION 12 This bill amends the definition of “motorcycle” to include 13 a two-wheeled motorcycle that is converted to a four-wheeled 14 vehicle using a conversion kit that adds two stabilizing wheels 15 on the rear of the motorcycle. As a result of the change, Iowa 16 laws concerning the registration and operation of motorcycles 17 that apply to a motorcycle with two wheels also apply to such 18 a motorcycle when it is modified to travel on four wheels by 19 means of a conversion kit. 20 -1- LSB 5895XS (3) 83 dea/rj 1/ 1
