Section
1.
Section
321.122,
subsection
1,
paragraph
a,
Code

2009,
is
amended
by
adding
the
following
new
subparagraph:

SUBPARAGRAPH
.
(3)
Notwithstanding
subparagraphs
3
(1)
and
(2),
the
annual
registration
fee
for
a
vehicle
4
registered
for
a
combined
gross
weight
of
five
tons
or
less
5
with
permanently
installed
equipment
manufactured
for
and
6
necessary
to
assist
a
person
with
a
disability
who
is
either
7
the
owner
or
a
member
of
the
owner’s
household
in
entry
and
8
exit
of
the
vehicle
or
for
such
a
vehicle
if
the
vehicle’s
9
owner
or
a
member
of
the
vehicle
owner’s
household
uses
a
10
wheelchair
as
the
only
means
of
mobility
shall
not
be
more
11
than
sixty
dollars.
For
purposes
of
this
subparagraph,
“uses
12
a
wheelchair”
does
not
include
use
of
a
wheelchair
due
to
a
13
temporary
injury
or
medical
condition.

EXPLANATION
29
This
bill
establishes
a
maximum
annual
registration
fee
30
of
$60
for
certain
motor
trucks
equipped
to
assist
a
person
31
with
a
disability
to
enter
and
exit
the
vehicle
if
the
person
32
with
a
disability
is
the
owner
of
the
motor
truck
or
a
member
33
of
the
owner’s
household.
The
$60
fee
also
applies
if
the
34
owner
of
the
motor
truck
or
a
member
of
the
owner’s
household

uses
a
wheelchair
as
the
only
means
of
mobility
and
use
of

the
wheelchair
is
not
due
to
a
temporary
injury
or
condition.

Motor
trucks
registered
for
a
combined
gross
weight
of
five
3
tons
or
less
are
eligible
for
the
reduced
fee.
However,
if
the
4
regular
annual
fee
for
the
motor
truck
would
be
less
than
$60,
5
the
lower
fee
applies.

Currently,
the
$60
person
with
a
disability
or
wheelchair
7
fee
is
available
for
newer
motor
trucks
with
an
unladen
weight
8
of
10,000
pounds
or
less
that
are
otherwise
registered
for
a
9
fee
based
on
weight
and
value.
The
bill
extends
eligibility
10
to
business
trade
trucks
and
older
trucks
registered
for
a
fee
11
based
on
the
combined
gross
weight
of
the
vehicle.
