S.F. _____ H.F. _____ Section 1. Section 124.206, subsection 3, Code 2009, is 1 amended by adding the following new paragraph: 2 NEW PARAGRAPH . ab. Tapentadol. 3 Sec. 2. Section 124.210, subsection 3, Code 2009, is amended 4 by adding the following new paragraph: 5 NEW PARAGRAPH . az. Fospropofol. 6 Sec. 3. Section 124.212, subsection 5, Code Supplement 7 2009, is amended to read as follows: 8 5. Depressants. Unless specifically exempted or excluded 9 or unless listed in another schedule, any material, compound, 10 mixture, or preparation that contains any quantity of any 11 of the following substance substances having a depressant 12 effect on the central nervous system, including its salts of 13 such substances : pregabalin 14 a. Lacosamide [(R)-2-acetoamido-N-benzyl-3-methoxy- 15 propionamide]. 16 b. Pregabalin [(S)-3-(aminomethyl)-5- methylhexanoic acid]. 17 EXPLANATION 18 This bill makes changes to the uniform controlled substances 19 Act. 20 The bill adds the substance “tapentadol” to the list of 21 opiates classified as schedule II controlled substances. 22 The bill adds the substance “fospropofol” to the list of 23 depressants classified as schedule IV controlled substances. 24 The bill adds the substance “lacosamide [(R)-2-acetoamido- 25 N-benzyl-3-methoxy-propionamide]” to the list of depressants 26 classified as schedule V controlled substances. 27 The substances added to the schedules by the bill are newly 28 developed medications recently approved by the federal food 29 and drug administration and are added to maintain uniformity 30 between state and federal regulations. 31 Iowa administrative code rules 657-10.1 through 657-10.40 32 govern the regulation of controlled substances. 33 -1- LSB 5155DP (6) 83 jm/nh 1/ 1
