H.F. _____ Section 1. Section 602.9110, unnumbered paragraph 2, Code 1 2009, is amended to read as follows: 2 However, this section does not prohibit the payment of an 3 annuity to a senior judge while serving as provided in section 4 602.9206 or to a retired judge while teaching no more than 5 six credit hours at an accredited educational institution 6 if permitted as a quasi-judicial or extrajudicial activity 7 pursuant to the Iowa code of judicial conduct, ch. 51, Iowa 8 court rules . 9 EXPLANATION 10 This bill provides that a retired judge may teach no 11 more than six credit hours per semester at an accredited 12 educational institution in this state if otherwise permitted 13 as a quasi-judicial activity authorized by the Iowa code of 14 judicial conduct and still receive the judge’s retirement 15 annuity. Current law provides that no retirement annuity under 16 the judicial retirement system shall be paid to a nonsurvivor 17 annuitant if the person is employed in any other public 18 employment, except employment as a senior judge. 19 -1- LSB 5586HC (5) 83 ec/rj 1/ 1
