House Resolution 52 - Introduced PAG LIN H.R. ________ S.R. ________ 1 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 1 2 BY GAYMAN 1 3 A Resolution supporting the commitment of President 1 4 Barack Obama to energy efficiency and renewable 1 5 energy initiatives and affirming this state's role 1 6 as a national leader in the renewable energy 1 7 industry. 1 8 WHEREAS, President Barack Obama identified energy 1 9 efficiency and renewable energy as priority issues of 1 10 national and global significance during his 2008 1 11 presidential campaign; and 1 12 WHEREAS, President Obama has demonstrated his 1 13 commitment to energy efficiency and renewable energy 1 14 by proposing federal legislation to the 111th Session 1 15 of Congress to enhance energy efficiency and 1 16 independence efforts, stimulate the development of 1 17 renewable energy sources and technology, and lower 1 18 carbon dioxide emissions; and 1 19 WHEREAS, President Obama selected the state of Iowa 1 20 for a visit on April 22, 2009, to commemorate Earth 1 21 Day, which included touring a wind turbine tower 1 22 manufacturing facility in Newton; and 1 23 WHEREAS, Iowa is recognized as a leader in wind 1 24 energy production, having been recently ranked second 1 25 nationally only behind the state of Texas in wind 1 26 energy production capacity; and 1 27 WHEREAS, during his tour President Obama announced 1 28 plans to facilitate offshore wind energy production 1 29 and increase federal spending on the renewable energy 1 30 industry during the next 10 years by $150 billion; and 2 1 WHEREAS, these efforts could provide a substantial 2 2 renewable energy development incentive and jobs 2 3 stimulus impact with significant economic benefit to 2 4 this state; NOW THEREFORE, 2 5 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, 2 6 That the House of Representatives recognizes and 2 7 supports the efforts of President Barack Obama 2 8 relating to improving and enhancing energy efficiency 2 9 and independence and stimulating the development of 2 10 renewable energy on a state and national level, and 2 11 that the House of Representatives affirms its 2 12 intention to coordinate this state's efforts with 2 13 measures adopted at the federal level to promote this 2 14 state's position as a national leader in the renewable 2 15 energy industry; and 2 16 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That enrolled copies of 2 17 this Resolution be sent to President Barack Obama and 2 18 the members of Iowa's congressional delegation. 2 19 LSB 2736HH 83 2 20 rn/rj/24
