  1  2      BY  SCHULTZ, HUSEMAN, RANTS, WENDT, WHITEAD,
  1  3     LUKAN, ISENHART, KEARNS, WINDSCHITL, SODERBERG,
  1  4                  WORTHAN, and TJEPKES
  1  5 A Resolution honoring the Morningside College Women's
  1  6    Basketball Team on their national championship.
  1  7    WHEREAS, Morningside College of Sioux City has, for
  1  8 the third time, won the women's basketball National
  1  9 Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA)
  1 10 Division II national championship in Sioux City's
  1 11 Tyson Events Center/Gateway Arena; and
  1 12    WHEREAS, in that title game the Morningside
  1 13 Mustangs once again were challenged by their Great
  1 14 Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) rival, the Hastings
  1 15 College Lady Broncos, who with the Mustangs have
  1 16 combined to win five of the previous seven NAIA
  1 17 Division II national titles, beating the Lady Broncos
  1 18 by a score of 68 to 63; and
  1 19    WHEREAS, this third NAIA national championship was
  1 20 the capstone to the 2008=2009 season in which the
  1 21 Morningside Mustangs finished with an amazing 38=0
  1 22 record, joining Indiana Wesleyan as the only other
  1 23 team to win the NAIA Division II title with an
  1 24 undefeated record; and
  1 25    WHEREAS, senior guard and Sioux City native Dani
  1 26 Gass was named the national tournament's Most Valuable
  1 27 Player and the NAIA Division II Women's Basketball
  1 28 Player of the Year; and
  1 29    WHEREAS, Dani Gass has been named to the 2009 NAIA
  1 30 Division II Women's Basketball All=America first team
  2  1 for the third year in a row and was joined on the
  2  2 first team by senior guard and Cherokee native Autumn
  2  3 Bartel; and
  2  4    WHEREAS, in addition to Gass and Bartel, teammates
  2  5 Leslie Foral, Laura Nelson, Brittany Williamson, Kayla
  2  6 Weerheim, and Roni Miller played in the championship
  2  7 game and teammates Nicole Van Heek, Sarah Culp,
  2  8 Mackenzi Mendlik, Katie Sponder, Brittany Alfredson,
  2  9 Jahde Hammer, Erica Luetje, Cara Anderson, Emily
  2 10 Christen, and Chelsie Trask all contributed to this
  2 11 record=setting season; and
  2 12    WHEREAS, Morningside College coach Jamie Sale has
  2 13 been named the NAIA Division II National Coach of the
  2 14 Year for the third time; NOW THEREFORE,
  2 15    BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,
  2 16 That the House of Representatives congratulates the
  2 17 members of the Morningside College Women's Basketball
  2 18 Team and their coach for the truly remarkable
  2 19 achievement of winning a third NAIA Division II
  2 20 Women's Basketball National Championship with a
  2 21 perfect season record and thanks them for the honor
  2 22 and recognition they have brought to Morningside
  2 23 College and to the State of Iowa; and
  2 24    BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That, upon adoption, an
  2 25 official copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  2 26 presentation to Coach Jamie Sale, assistant coach Jill
  2 27 Bodammer, and the members of the Morningside College
  2 28 Women's Basketball Team.
