1 12 A Resolution honoring and commemorating the University
1 13 of Northern Iowa Panther Men's Basketball Team and
1 14 Head Coach Ben Jacobson.
1 15 WHEREAS, the citizens of Iowa are greatly pleased
1 16 that the University of Northern Iowa Men's Basketball
1 17 Team finished its season with an overall record of 23
1 18 wins and 11 losses, and played in its fifth NCAA
1 19 Division I Men's Basketball Tournament, its fourth
1 20 appearance since 2004; and
1 21 WHEREAS, the University of Northern Iowa Men's
1 22 Basketball Team finished in a tie for first in the
1 23 Missouri Valley Conference standings, its first=ever
1 24 outright or shared Missouri Valley Conference
1 25 regular=season title; and
1 26 WHEREAS, the Panthers won the State Farm Missouri
1 27 Valley Conference Tournament, their second=ever
1 28 Missouri Valley Conference Tournament title; and
1 29 WHEREAS, the Panthers tied the school record for
1 30 wins in a season with a record of 23 wins, including
2 1 14 wins in the Missouri Valley Conference; and
2 2 WHEREAS, the Panthers played competitively, set new
2 3 and tied old school records, and individual players
2 4 received athletic awards at the local and regional
2 5 levels; and
2 6 WHEREAS, Panther Head Coach Ben Jacobson was named
2 7 the 2008=2009 Missouri Valley Conference Coach of the
2 8 Year in his third year as the University of Northern
2 9 Iowa Men's Basketball Team Head Coach; was a finalist
2 10 for the 2009 Hugh Durham national coach of the year
2 11 award; holds a 59=38 cumulative coaching record in his
2 12 first three years as head coach, the best cumulative
2 13 record of any Panther men's basketball coach's first
2 14 three years at the helm; and, along with the assistant
2 15 coaching staff, encouraged, directed, and inspired the
2 16 team to great success this season; NOW THEREFORE,
2 17 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,
2 18 That the House of Representatives congratulates the
2 19 University of Northern Iowa Panther Men's Basketball
2 20 Team, Head Coach Ben Jacobson, and the assistant
2 21 coaching staff on their successful season, thanks them
2 22 for the honor and excitement they brought to the State
2 23 of Iowa, and wishes them the very best in the future.
2 24 BE IT FUTHER RESOLVED, That, upon adoption, the
2 25 Chief Clerk of the House of Representatives prepare a
2 26 copy of this Resolution for presentation to Head Coach
2 27 Ben Jacobson and the University of Northern Iowa
2 28 Panther Men's Basketball Team.
