  1  1                HOUSE RESOLUTION NO.

  1  3 A Resolution honoring the Kirkwood Eagles Women's
  1  4    Basketball Team and Coach Kim Muhl.
  1  5    WHEREAS, for most of its 44=year history, Kirkwood
  1  6 Community College has offered intercollegiate sports
  1  7 to encourage the development of the whole individual,
  1  8 to promote collegiate, civic, and community pride, and
  1  9 to foster goodwill with other colleges and their
  1 10 students; and
  1 11    WHEREAS, during the past 20 years, Kirkwood
  1 12 basketball programs have risen to national prominence
  1 13 through outstanding performance and distinguished
  1 14 sportsmanship, including numerous appearances at the
  1 15 National Junior College Athletic Association Division
  1 16 II national tournaments; and
  1 17    WHEREAS, in those past two decades, Women's
  1 18 Basketball Coach Kim Muhl, his assistants, and their
  1 19 teams have achieved one of the most impressive records
  1 20 in the nation, earning Coach Muhl a combined 587=111
  1 21 career record, plus numerous state, regional, and
  1 22 national coaching awards; and
  1 23    WHEREAS, in the 2008=09 basketball season, the
  1 24 Kirkwood Eagles Women's Basketball program finished
  1 25 the season with a 36=1 record, including a 30=game
  1 26 winning streak that culminated in a third straight
  1 27 National Junior College Athletic Association Division
  1 28 II National Championship, a record unsurpassed in Iowa
  1 29 community college athletic history; and
  1 30    WHEREAS, Coach Muhl's record over the past three
  2  1 complete seasons is 101=8, with the 2009 National
  2  2 Championship the fifth for Kirkwood under his
  2  3 leadership; and
  2  4    WHEREAS, beyond these incredible accomplishments on
  2  5 the court, Coach Muhl, his assistants, and the faculty
  2  6 of Kirkwood have all contributed to the success of
  2  7 many hundreds of accomplished student=athletes, many
  2  8 of whom have been recognized for great scholastic as
  2  9 well as athletic accomplishments; and
  2 10    WHEREAS, in addition to these remarkable sports
  2 11 milestones, Coach Kim Muhl and the leadership of
  2 12 Kirkwood Community College can enjoy the satisfaction
  2 13 of their roles in the development of personal and team
  2 14 leadership, the attainment of high goals, and the
  2 15 encouragement of exemplary character in its
  2 16 student=athletes for more than four decades; NOW
  2 17 THEREFORE,
  2 18    BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,
  2 19 That the House of Representatives congratulates the
  2 20 Kirkwood Eagles Women's Basketball Team and Coach Kim
  2 21 Muhl on winning a third straight National Junior
  2 22 College Athletic Association Division II National
  2 23 Championship.
