  1  3 A Resolution to honor the 2008=2009 University of Iowa
  1  4    Wrestling Team.
  1  5    WHEREAS, the University of Iowa wrestling program
  1  6 is one of the most storied in National Collegiate
  1  7 Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I athletics; and
  1  8    WHEREAS, the University of Iowa Hawkeyes are a
  1  9 member of the Big Ten Athletic Conference and are the
  1 10 reigning NCAA wrestling champions; and
  1 11    WHEREAS, the 2008=2009 University of Iowa wrestling
  1 12 team finished undefeated in dual meets with a record
  1 13 of 24 wins and no losses; and
  1 14    WHEREAS, the Hawkeyes won the 2009 Cliff Keen
  1 15 National Duals Tournament; and
  1 16    WHEREAS, the Hawkeyes won the Midlands Wrestling
  1 17 Tournament and the Big Ten Wrestling Tournament; and
  1 18    WHEREAS, the team qualified nine wrestlers for the
  1 19 NCAA Wrestling Championships in St. Louis from March
  1 20 19 through 21, including Charlie Falck (125 pounds),
  1 21 Alex Tsirtsis (141 pounds), Jay Borschel (174 pounds),
  1 22 and Chad Beatty (197 pounds); and five qualifiers
  1 23 achieved All=American status, Daniel Dennis (7th
  1 24 place, 133 pounds), Brent Metcalf (2nd place, 149
  1 25 pounds), Ryan Morningstar (3rd place, 165 pounds),
  1 26 Phillip Keddy (4th place, 184 pounds), and Dan Erekson
  1 27 (4th place, heavyweight); and
  1 28    WHEREAS, the team won the 2009 NCAA Wrestling
  1 29 Championships held in St. Louis, accounting for their
  1 30 22nd national championship; and
  2  1    WHEREAS, the team achieved its athletic success and
  2  2 demonstrated sportsmanship under the coaching of Tom
  2  3 Brands, Terry Brands, Doug Schwab, and Mike Zadick;
  2  4 NOW THEREFORE,
  2  5    BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,
  2  6 That the House of Representatives honors the wrestlers
  2  7 and coaches of the 2008=2009 University of Iowa
  2  8 wrestling team.
