  1  3 A Resolution honoring the life and memory of former
  1  4    Representative and Senator Mary Lundby.
  1  5    WHEREAS, it is with sorrow and respect that the
  1  6 House of Representatives notes the passing of former
  1  7 Representative and Senator Mary Lundby; and
  1  8    WHEREAS, Mary Lundby came to the House of
  1  9 Representatives in 1986, beginning a 22=year
  1 10 legislative career; and
  1 11    WHEREAS, Ms. Lundby, a diligent and thoughtful
  1 12 legislator, took her obligations to the people of Iowa
  1 13 seriously, but never held herself above or apart from
  1 14 others; and
  1 15    WHEREAS, her legislative skills were recognized
  1 16 early and often, and over two decades she chaired or
  1 17 co=chaired a variety of committees and was the first
  1 18 woman elected Speaker Pro Tempore in the House of
  1 19 Representatives and the first woman chosen Co=Majority
  1 20 Leader of the Senate; and
  1 21    WHEREAS, as her health failed, Ms. Lundby met this
  1 22 new challenge with both determination and dignity, and
  1 23 finally with a sense of grace and peace; and
  1 24    WHEREAS, on Saturday, January 17, 2009, Mary Lundby
  1 25 passed away, but her lifetime of accomplishments and
  1 26 her wit and wisdom remain her enduring legacy; NOW
  1 27 THEREFORE,
  1 28    BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,
  1 29 That the House of Representatives rises to honor the
  1 30 life and memory of former Representative and Senator
  2  1 Mary Lundby and to celebrate her work on behalf of the
  2  2 people of Iowa.
