House Resolution 112 - Introduced HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 112 BY ZIRKELBACH A Resolution supporting the assignment of the USS 1 Iowa as a museum at the former Mare Island Naval 2 Shipyard. 3 WHEREAS, BB-61, the USS Iowa, was named for our 4 bountiful state and is the namesake for the most 5 powerful class of warships ever made; and 6 WHEREAS, Navy members recruited from Iowa have 7 received preference for assignment to service on board 8 the USS Iowa through most of its service life; and 9 WHEREAS, the USS Iowa would remain a continuing 10 marketing display for the talented and well-educated 11 workforce in the State of Iowa throughout a period of 12 museum duty; and 13 WHEREAS, there is a proposal to assign the USS Iowa 14 to museum duty at the former Mare Island Naval Shipyard 15 in the Bay area of California; NOW THEREFORE, 16 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, That 17 the House of Representatives supports the assignment 18 of the USS Iowa as a museum at the former Mare Island 19 Naval Shipyard, and requests the members of Iowa’s 20 congressional delegation, and the representatives and 21 senators of the 83rd Iowa General Assembly to show 22 support by raising funds and by supporting legislation 23 to further this assignment and the funding necessary to 24 support this project. 25 -1- LSB 6166HH (2) 83 jr/nh 1/ 1
