H.J.R. 2001 Section 1. The following amendment to the Constitution of 1 the State of Iowa is proposed: 2 Article I of the Constitution of the State of Iowa is amended 3 by adding the following new section: 4 Marriage. SEC. 26. Marriage between one man and one woman 5 shall be the only legal union valid or recognized in this 6 state. 7 Sec. 2. REFERRAL AND PUBLICATION. The foregoing amendment 8 to the Constitution of the State of Iowa is referred to the 9 General Assembly to be chosen at the next general election 10 for members of the General Assembly and the Secretary of 11 State is directed to cause the same to be published for three 12 consecutive months previous to the date of that election as 13 provided by law. 14 EXPLANATION 15 This joint resolution proposes an amendment to the 16 Constitution of the State of Iowa specifying that marriage 17 between one man and one woman shall be the only legal union 18 valid or recognized in this state.
