  1  1    Section 1.  PLAN OF SERVICES FOR INDIVIDUALS WITH AUTISM.
  1  2    1.  The department of human services shall develop a plan
  1  3 to provide services for individuals up to twenty=one years of
  1  4 age with autism.  The department shall work with the Iowa
  1  5 autism council established in section 256.35A and other
  1  6 interested parties in developing the plan.
  1  7    2.  The department shall provide progress reports to the
  1  8 legislative services agency until such time as the final plan
  1  9 is completed.
  1 10    3.  The department shall present the final plan to the
  1 11 general assembly by January 15, 2010.
  1 12    4.  For the purposes of this section, "autism" means autism
  1 13 as defined in section 256.35A.
  1 14                           EXPLANATION
  1 15    This bill directs the department of human services to
  1 16 develop a plan to provide services to individuals up to 21
  1 17 years of age with autism.  The bill also directs the
  1 18 department to work with the Iowa autism council and other
  1 19 interested parties in developing the plan.
  1 20    The department is to provide progress reports to the
  1 21 legislative services agency until the final plan is completed.
  1 22    The final plan is to be presented to the general assembly
  1 23 by January 15, 2010.  For the purposes of the bill, "autism"
  1 24 means a spectrum disorder that includes, at various levels of
  1 25 severity, autism, Asperger's disorder, pervasive developmental
  1 26 disorder not otherwise specified, Rett's syndrome, and
  1 27 childhood disintegrative disorder.
