1 1 Section 1. Section 80D.3, subsection 3, Code 2009, is
1 2 amended to read as follows:
1 3 3. A person appointed to serve as a reserve peace officer
1 4 who has received basic training as a peace officer and has
1 5 been certified by the academy pursuant to chapter 80B and
1 6 rules adopted pursuant to chapter 80B may met the minimum
1 7 training course requirement of one hundred fifty hours
1 8 obtained at a community college or other facility selected by
1 9 the individual and approved by the law enforcement agency
1 10 prior to July 1, 2007, shall be exempted from completing the
1 11 minimum training course at the discretion of the appointing
1 12 authority. However, such a person appointed to serve as a
1 13 reserve peace officer shall meet mandatory in=service training
1 14 requirements established by academy rules if the person has
1 15 not served as an active peace officer within one hundred
1 16 eighty days of appointment as a reserve peace officer.
1 17 EXPLANATION
1 18 This bill provides that a person appointed to serve as a
1 19 reserve peace officer who has met the minimum training course
1 20 requirement of 150 hours obtained at a community college or
1 21 other facility selected by the individual and approved by the
1 22 law enforcement agency prior to July 1, 2007, shall be
1 23 exempted from completing the minimum training course at the
1 24 discretion of the appointing authority.
