SECTION
.
356.6A
Duty
to
inform
about
veteran
1
services.
2
The
personnel
of
a
jail
or
municipal
holding
facility
shall
3
inform
a
prisoner,
within
twenty-four
hours
of
incarceration,
4
that
if
the
prisoner
is
a
veteran
of
the
United
States
military
5
forces
who
has
been
released
from
active
duty
within
the
6
previous
five
years,
the
prisoner
may
be
entitled
to
a
visit
7
from
a
veteran
service
officer
to
determine
if
veteran
services
8
are
required
or
available.
Within
twenty-four
hours
of
9
determining
a
prisoner
is
a
veteran
who
has
been
released
from
10
active
duty
within
the
previous
five
years,
the
personnel
of
11
a
jail
or
municipal
holding
facility
shall
inform
the
county
12
commission
of
veteran
affairs
of
the
county
where
the
jail
or
13
facility
is
located
that
a
prisoner
at
the
jail
or
facility
is
14
a
veteran
and
may
be
entitled
to
a
visit
from
a
veteran
service
15
officer.

EXPLANATION

This
bill
relates
to
providing
veteran
services
to
inmates
18
incarcerated
in
a
jail
or
municipal
holding
facility.

The
bill
requires
the
personnel
of
a
jail
or
municipal
20
holding
facility,
to
inform
a
prisoner,
within
24
hours
of
21
incarceration,
that
if
the
prisoner
is
a
veteran
who
has
been
22
released
from
active
duty
within
the
previous
five
years,
the
23
prisoner
may
be
entitled
to
a
visit
from
a
veteran
service
24
officer
to
determine
if
veteran
services
are
required
or
25
available.

If
it
is
determined
that
the
prisoner
is
a
veteran
who
27
has
been
released
from
active
duty
within
the
previous
five
28
years,
the
bill
requires
the
personnel
of
the
jail
or
municipal
29
holding
facility,
within
24
hours
of
making
the
determination,
30
to
inform
the
county
commission
of
veteran
affairs
of
the
31
county
where
the
jail
or
facility
is
located
that
a
prisoner
at
32
the
jail
or
facility
is
a
veteran
and
may
be
entitled
to
a
visit

a
veteran
service
officer.
