H.F. 2225 Section 1. Section 607A.5, Code 2009, is amended to read as 1 follows: 2 607A.5 Automatic excuse from jury service. 3 A person shall be excused from jury service if the person 4 submits written documentation verifying, to the court’s 5 satisfaction, that any of the following: 6 1. That the person is solely responsible for the daily 7 care of a person with a permanent disability living in the 8 person’s household and that the performance of juror service 9 would cause substantial risk of injury to the health of the 10 person with a disability, or that the person is the mother of 11 a breastfed child and is responsible for the daily care of 12 the child. However, if the person is regularly employed at a 13 location other than the person’s household, the person shall 14 not be excused under this section. 15 2. That the person has served on a grand or petit jury two 16 or more times in the previous ten years. 17 EXPLANATION 18 This bill expands the purposes for receiving an automatic 19 excuse from jury service. 20 The bill provides that a person who has served on a grand or 21 petit jury two or more times in the previous ten years shall be 22 excused from such service. 23 -1- LSB 5983YH (3) 83 jm/rj 1/ 1
