COMMON
COURSE

NUMBERING.
The
state
board
of
regents,
the
department
of

education,
the
boards
of
directors
of
the
community
colleges,
3
and
the
institutions
of
higher
education
governed
by
the
state
4
board
of
regents,
in
collaboration
with
the
liaison
advisory
5
committee
on
transfer
students,
shall
develop
a
shared,
uniform
6
set
of
course
designations
for
students
and
their
advisors
7
to
use
in
determining
both
course
equivalency
and
degree
8
of
applicability
of
transfer
credits
on
a
statewide
basis,
9
which
shall
be
implemented
by
the
community
colleges
and
the
10
institutions
of
higher
education
governed
by
the
state
board
11
of
regents
not
later
than
July
1,
2012.
The
shared,
uniform
12
set
of
course
designations
developed
shall
be
made
available
13
to
accredited
private
postsecondary
institutions.
The
state
14
board
of
regents,
the
department
of
education,
the
boards
of
15
directors
of
the
community
colleges,
and
the
institutions
of
16
higher
education
governed
by
the
state
board
of
regents,
shall
17
collaboratively
submit
their
findings
and
recommendations
in
a
18
report
to
the
general
assembly
by
January
10,
2011.

EXPLANATION
20
This
bill
requires
the
state
board
of
regents
and
its
21
universities,
the
department
of
education,
and
the
community
22
colleges,
in
collaboration
with
the
liaison
advisory
committee
23
on
transfer
students,
to
develop
a
shared,
uniform
set
of
24
course
designations
for
students
and
their
advisors
to
25
use
in
determining
both
course
equivalency
and
degree
of
26
applicability
of
transfer
credits
on
a
statewide
basis,
27
which
shall
be
implemented
by
the
community
colleges
and
the
28
regents
universities
not
later
than
July
1,
2012.
The
bill
29
directs
that
the
common
course
numbering
system
be
shared
with
30
accredited
private
postsecondary
institutions.
The
state
board

of
regents,
the
department,
the
community
colleges,
and
the

universities
must
collaboratively
