H.F. 2028 Section 1. Section 1A.1, Code 2009, is amended to read as 1 follows: 2 1A.1 Seal —— device —— motto. 3 The secretary of state be, and is, hereby authorized to 4 procure a seal which shall be the great seal of the state of 5 Iowa, two inches in diameter, upon which shall be engraved the 6 following device, surrounded by the words, “The Great Seal of 7 the State of Iowa” —— a sheaf and field of standing wheat, with 8 a sickle and other farming utensils, on the left side near the 9 bottom; a lead furnace and pile of pig lead on the right side; 10 the citizen soldier, with standing in front of a plow in his 11 rear , supporting the American flag and liberty cap with his 12 right hand, and his gun with his left, in the center and near 13 the bottom; the Mississippi river in the rear of the whole, 14 with the steamer Iowa under way; an eagle near the upper edge, 15 holding in his beak a scroll, with the following inscription 16 upon it: Our liberties we prize, and our rights we will 17 maintain. 18 EXPLANATION 19 This bill corrects a malapropism in the legal description of 20 the great seal of the state of Iowa.
